The dog days of summer...

The summer heat is here! But then again, we suffer for a few months for the great weather the rest of the year, so I guess we cannot complain much.

Since the leadership team took office in June, we have accomplished quite a bit. The Kelly Cole Donation Challenge is over $11,000 - thank you to everyone that contributed! As a reminder, if we hit $12K by July 31, Mr. Tom Cole will be losing his braids for a 'military acceptable; haircut. We have also planned the Inaugural Ivan Nelson Classic, to take place on August 25th at Bartlett Lake. In this event, we hope to raise awareness to Post 3513 and the VFW as a whole, by partnering veterans with professional anglers for a day of trying to catch the big one. And there is still more to come!

One of our main focal points of the year is "Beyond the 4 walls". What does that mean? To me, it means that the VFW (specifically Post 3513) has to be more than a canteen with cheap drinks. We need to become active in our community, showing the citizens of Greater Phoenix that we are here to help our brothers and sisters. In the upcoming months, we hope to plan many more events that get us involved in our community.

Within the Post, we are working to make many improvements. Our hours have changed to now be 11am-9pm, Monday through Saturday, and Sunday from 10:30-6:30pm. In the month of August, we will be bringing back the "Big Breakfast" and will also start a Trivia Night (night is TBD). It is our goal to offer more to you, our members, through activities that you may enjoy. We have also been asked to bring back our monthly Steak Fry night, which we are currently working to source a meat vendor to help support this event.

I would be negligent if I did not take a moment to acknowledge all of the volunteers that make the Post work. From the Auxiliary, to the staff, to each member that walks through the doors - it has truly been a group effort to get the Post to a place we are all proud of. Make no mistake - people around the area are taking notice of our great strides!

I hope to see you around the Post in the upcoming days and weeks. If you haven't stopped in recently, I encourage you to come by and check it out for yourself.

Until next time,

JJ
